What are your fave hot dogs and what toppings do you prefer?
Unfortunately where I live there is a limited choice of good hog dog sausages, most are thin "kiddies" type but there are some bigger and even giant brands.
My fave though are Herta Jumbo.

The Herta regular could be used for hot dogs but I just generally snack on them. They have a nice smokey flavour.
Another point is the buns. The buns I can get are regular "baps" just in a finger shape. They are a little too fluffy and tend to disintergrate with the sauces.
My regular toppings are fried or boiled onion, ketchup and mustard.
I saw an episode of The Sopranos and they had something called a Lincoln Log that seemed to be a hot dog with cream cheese. I tried it and it's not too bad.
Something i'm going to have this or next week is a chilli dog. I have the chilli and the cheese ready.
Just need to pick a free night for when I feel up to it

Oh my goodness, I want a chili dog now! I haven't had a chili dog in such a long while! Oh and the sharp cheddar cheese. Yum yum, how could you have done this to me, LOL!
I remember at one segment of my life, I almost daily ate 2 or 3 hot dogs in a row! Mayonnaise and ketchup and bun. Geeez. Haha!
Oh yeah - you just got to have the sharp cheddar cheese. Yummy.
I tend to have my dogs with ketchup, raw onions and occcasionally with relish. I also love them with Indian Corn Relish. Its hard to find a decent bun here too - they tend to dissolve about 1/3 way through eating the dog into a gooey mess. I can see myself eating two hot dogs in buns (mayonnaise and ketchup are pretty good - and are my nephew's favorite) but not three.

I wish I was more familiar wth American vs. English food degsy because what you describing sounds almost like a type of kiebasa or a brat. I'm always on the look-out for a fantastic hotdog eating experience.

I think most, if not all, of the hot dogs you can get from supermarkets are what we call Frankfurters. They are very different to our standard sausages. Lots of scaray stories about what goes into them

hehe. I'm actually a newcomer to mustard on a hot dog, or burger infact. It's only in the last few years that i've branched out.
Before that it was just ketchup and onions.
Another strange thing is I don't like ketchup on chips. Only hot dogs and burgers etc.
Nice to see you sticking with the old Encona Beanie. It's a regular in my cupboard. Although I have also been trying this stuff

Not as hot but still tasty

Are you talking about our hotdogs or England's frankfurters when you say about those scary stories? I know that they are usually very true about our hotdogs.

I love Brats boiled in a good beer and sweet onions The Brat is then removed and flame kissed on the grill.
I tried to find an English Corn Relish recipe, but wasn't successful. (I did though have a great time reading and then adding recipes to my recipe file). What is the difference between American Corn Relish and English Corn Relish - is it the English version is very spicy?
By the list of ingredients on cholula sauce, I can see it still carries a good kick.
If it makes you feel any better, i've never heard of corn relish before

Cholula is nowhere near Encona

I get family and friends to send me Encona over as I can't get it here. Shame they won't ship Felinfoel as well LOL!!!
I bought some brats from a street meat van outside Canadian Tire the other day. I can't find a link for them but they're called Jonesy's. Fantastic sausage. 17 for 20 bucks so although they're not the cheapest they are great quality. They had the regular and the hot, so I bought the regular thinking TCMB and the kids would like them and guess what

Next time I need some I'll buy the hot.

Got the in laws coming over for 3 months in June and they haven't tried these yet. They both swoon over the regular brats I buy so I think I'll be the greatest son in law this side of the Nagasaki scorch mark when they try them.
I forgot to add earlier that it's vital you do these over coals otherwise it's just not cricket.
If you catch my drift..................
Degs have you tried Dante's Inferno??? If not don't bother. It's hot but it's just like eating a spoonful of Cayenne pepper. I don't see the point of producing a hot sauce that just tastes of pepper.
It's like a good vindaloo.
Why on earth would you make a vindaloo that is so full of chillies you can't taste it. Vindaloo at it's best is slightly hotter than a madras strength, with potato in it.
Nothing more, nothing less.
As usual I digress......

For me it's very rare to have a hot dog over here. I've found that many of the sausages have hardly any taste/flavour to them so I don't bother. The only sausages I have liked are those little breakfast sausages, they are quite tasty and certainly more like what i was used to in the UK. I agree the mustard is very mild here compared to what I was used to (Colemans English mustard), unless you're talking ant the mustard you get with Chinese food, that is really quite "hot"!!
Are you on about the Wasabi Dai??? The green stuff??? That's horseradish
and it's Japanese

I believe Dave is talking about the incredibly spicy brownish yellow Chinese mustard.
I love breakfast sausage too.
That's the one "Tel.

Wow, this thread got interesting!
Teluria, as for me having a favorite brand, naw, I don't. I haven't eaten hot dogs in years, in fact!
Is it because you haven't found a good hotdog or you just don't like them any more, Harrie?
I just had hotdogs for supper last night - a dog that was a mixture of pork, turkey and beef - not too bad - but not too great either.

I haven't got around do doing the chilli dog yet but did make an inbetween version the other night.
I cooked the dog in low to medium heat in the deep fryer. Along with the regular onions, ketchup and mustard I topped it with salsa and cheese.
Very messy, but very yummy

I've never deep fat fryed a hot dog. Sounds very interesting and probably good.
I always used to boil them but I saw one deep fried on an Anthony Bourdain show. Apparently "Rippers" are a New Jersey favourite.
I am going to have to try it. I'll probably be sorry I did because I'll probably really like it.
